Matty Healy labels The 1975’s Grammys snub an “outrage”

The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has deemed it an “outrage” that his band didn’t receive a Grammy Award nomination.

The Cheshire band performed on November 15th for the second consecutive night at Madison Square Garden in New York as a part of their Still… At Their Very Best tour. During the performance, Healy paused to discuss how the band was overlooked by the Grammys after the complete list of nominations for the 2024 event was disclosed last week.

“The fact we didn’t get nominated for a Grammy is a fucking outrage,” he told the audience. “And the reason people don’t say that is ’cause it’s not a very tasteful thing to say. But I’m way past tasteful.”

He continued: “Are you fucking mental?! Are they fucking mental?! ‘A Brief Inquiry…’, ‘I Like It When You Sleep…’ nothing! Fuck off! Dickheads. What the fuck are they on about? I mean, ‘About You’ just on its own merits deserves a fucking Grammy. I mean, I don’t really care that much but it just winds me up.”

Adding: “Literally tell me one band in the past four years that could do what we’re gonna do in the next three minutes.”

Healy also described Kanye West as one of his heroes, stating that “You’ve gotta fucking believe in yourself,” adding that West is “an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that. But separate the anti-Semitism – just think about the self-belief.”

The Grammy nominees were announced during an online stream with Arctic Monkeys, Billie Eilish, Paramore, Metallica, and Foo Fighters revealed as some of the shortlisted acts. Although The 1975 have been nominated twice by the Academy in the categories ‘Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package’ and ‘Best Rock Song’, they are absent from the list of 2024 nominees.
