Matty Healy confirms The 1975 have made two new albums
Matty Healy has confirmed The 1975 have made two new albums.
Healy made the revelation at an event at Gateshead College on December 2nd, during which he also confirmed he would be performing at the Sunday for Sammy charity event in February at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.
Healy hosted a songwriting workshop with students, as well as a Q&A session. In video footage, which later emerged on social media, one fan asked about “DOGS” mysteriously appearing on screen during their Glastonbury headline set in June.
Many fans understood this cryptic message to tease their next album, which Healy seemingly confirmed, by telling a fan of The 1975’s recent exploits, “We made two. It might be one; it might be two. We made two albums.”
It has now been three years since their last album, Being Funny In a Foreign Language, which they wrapped up touring in 2024.
Last year, their sole live appearance came on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, and as it stands, they are still yet to have any scheduled dates in the calendar.
The last update on new material from the band came ahead of Glastonbury when their manager Jamie Oborne shared on The Money Trench podcast, “They’re making a record at the moment. I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one.”
From what he’s heard, Oborne described it as “pretty extraordinary”.
“I think they’ve earned the right to take their time,” the manager also said on a potential timeframe for the upcoming album, adding, “The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”
In November, Healy took the unusual decision to remove ‘Human Too’ from the streaming version of their last studio album. He later explained his reasoning on Reddit, saying it was done “so the album is more how I want it to be. Previous physical release obviously remain the same.”
He went on to suggest another song could be pulled from a different The 1975 record: “I doubt the same will happen with any other records as I am pretty happy with them outside of ‘What should I say’ from Notes On A Conditional Form. So that may also be removed who knows.”
