Bryan Cranston and Frankie Muniz confirmed for ‘Malcolm in the Middle’

There have been many speculations over whether or not there will be a Malcom in the Middle revival, but Disney+ have revealed that a remake is now officially in the works, with Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their original roles.

As revealed by Variety, the studio have greenlit four episodes with the original creator of the show, Linwood Boomer. The synopsis of the show is that it follows Malcolm and his daughter, who are drawn into family chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary.

Ayo Davis, the president of Disney Branded Television, said, “Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humour, heart and relatability. Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

Boomer will also write the revival of the show, with Cranston serving as an executive producer. The show first aired in 2000, following the lead character, Malcolm, as he lives with his chaotic family and navigates the drama of growing up. It was one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 2000s and was praised for its absurdist comedy and eclectic characters, only emboldened by such a strong ensemble cast.

Muniz and Cranston have been trying to create a spinoff of the show for many years, but with busy careers outside of the show, it has taken some time for everything to fall into the right place. Since the show ended in 2006, Cranston went on to star in another iconic show, playing the lead role of Walter White in Breaking Bad, which has largely been heralded as one of the greatest television shows of all time. It is known for being a detailed and gritty character study that follows the demise of a chemistry teacher turned meth-making businessman, with White slowly becoming a criminal mastermind and losing any ounce of his moral compass in the process.

Muniz has had a varied career since the show and has found success as a driver after beginning his career on the race track in 2006. The actor has also starred in Raising the Bar, Us and Them and Playing House.

While details of the release date and production are still unknown, after the official confirmation of the revival, we can now look forward to seeing these characters return to our screens.
