With The Boss, Bruce Springsteen’s 70th birthday on the horizon, Lucy Dacus has already got her gift in early. She’s covered The Boss’ eighties classic ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and given it a wonderful new twist.
“Happy birthday to The Boss, and happy birthday to my dad, the biggest Bruce fan I know.” This was the tweet to accompany the singer’s cover of Springsteen’s hit as Dacus revealed that she may have had an ulterior motive to covering the song – she doubles the cover as a gift for both Springsteen and her dad.
It’s not the first time that Dacus, who has been wowing crowds and critics alike with her solo work as well as being one part fo the indie supergroup boygenius, has used her songs to pay homage to her parents.
The singer released ‘My Mother & I’, a song recorded in honour of Mother’s Day. January, saw Dacus cover Edith Piaf’s ‘La Vie En Rose’ ahead of Valentine’s Day. More recently, she released the new song ‘Forever Half Mast’, which commemorated the US’ Independence Day.
These singles will be released by Dacus very soon as one collection on a new EP, due out in the autumn. But for now, listen to Lucy Dacus’ cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’.
