The supergroup consisting of some of the best singer-songwriters in the scene right now, (Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker) aka boygenius, have taken to the illustrious, albeit tiny, arena of NPR’s ‘tiny desk concert’ and gave a performance which proved their talent and soul was far beyond what we’d hoped.
The trio’s new self-titled debut EP has been receiving rapturous if a little teary, applause as one of the most complete debuts of the year. That fact may have been predicted by many given the band’s individuals successes (this was Julian Baker’s second time behind the tiny desk) but it bears repeating that this will be one of the list-topping releases of 2018.
A gentle, heartfelt and ultimately honest record which has gathered the hearts and minds of many is compounded in this performance. Playing the EP’s ‘Souvenir,’ ‘Me & My Dog,’ and ‘Ketchum, ID’ boygenius proved this was no publicity stunt. Their vocals effortless support and define one another while their sentiment is supercharged between them.
Watch the video and enjoy a band that are looking at the peak of their potential.
