Lorde on watching Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s sex tape: “I found it to be so beautiful”
In a new interview, New Zealand musician Lorde opened up watching Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s leaked sex tape after a euphoric therapy session.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the singer discussed MDMA and psilocybin therapy that she undertook in response to stage fright she’d suffered from since the age of five. She described how the euphoria of these drugs freed her body and mind.
After her second session in 2022, Lorde found herself searching for the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape for reasons unbeknownst to her.
Reflecting on the tape, Lorde shared: “I found it so beautiful. And maybe it’s fucked up that I watched it, but I saw two people that were so in love with each other, and there was this purity.”
The ‘Royals’ singer continued ruminating: “They were jumping off this big boat.… They were like children. They were so free. And I just was like, ‘Whoa. Being this free comes with danger.’”
A Hulu series recounted the love story of Anderson and Lee. However, the series was made without Anderson’s consent and focused on the former couple’s turbulent relationship, which came to a boiling point when a sex tape featuring them both was stolen in 1995 and shared without permission. Anderson felt that Lily James and Sebastian Stan’s representation of her and Lee felt like “Halloween costumes.”
In the same interview, Lorde discussed how she was “slamming into rock bottom” due to her disordered eating habits. Around the release date of her 2021 album Solar Power, the star says she only remembers feeling “so hungry and so weak.”
Lorde’s new album, Virgin, will be released on June 27th. Her last full-length release was the 2021 album Solar Power, which followed on from Melodrama in 2017 and her debut Pure Heroine in 2013.
Lorde also recently announced a world tour in support of the new album that will hit North America, the UK and Europe. The extensive set of dates will see Lorde spend three months on the road alongside support such as Oklou, Blood Orange and Japanese House.
