Lola Colt this week have returned with not only a cracker of a tune with ‘Driving Mr Johnny’ but with a plethora of news about their upcoming album and new tour dates. And after all that we have even named them today’s Track of the Day.
The first release from their forthcoming LP Away From The Water , which will be released on October 27th via Fuzz Club Records and produced by Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), ‘Driving Mr Johnny’ is the perfect reminder of why we love Lola Colt so much.
Melancholy and melodic they err on the side of magnificent as they dabble between a effortless ease and highly constructed sound. Using synths and guitars to create their soundscapes the six piece band bring a sonic intensity currently unrivaled in the industry.
One of London’s most exciting bands they blend a punk ethos with a darkened kaleidoscopic view which hues their driving guitars with the crisp and crucial flourish of a Black Dahlia, intense, dangerous and beautiful.
There is a clear cinematic theme running through the track and starts with it’s title playing on the infamous Driving Miss Daisy. It dances between post-punk and psychedelia all while delivering a theatrical sound which excites and evokes emotions effortlessly.
