Little Simz on lawsuit with producer Inflo: “I wanted to scream”

Little Simz has opened up about her ongoing lawsuit with producer Inflo, who she claims has refused to pay her back a £1.7 million loan.

The Mercury Prize-winning artist made the claim in January against Inflo, real name Dean Cover, after allegedly not being paid back the money she loaned the producer for the production of three albums she produced under the recording company Artists Without A Label (AWAL), which Cover encouraged her to sign to so she could self-produce her music.

According to Law 360, Little Simz also lent him an additional £1 million to put on the first and only live show for Sault, the musical collective Cover helms, in December 2023 at Drumsheds in London. He was supposedly meant to pay her back within days, but allegedly failed to do so.

Inflo, who produced her albums Grey Area, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, and No Thank You, has yet to respond publicly to the lawsuit.

Now, in a new interview with Billboard, Simz explained she began work on four albums after No Thank You, which have all been scrapped, seemingly due to Inflo’s involvement.

She explained of the projects: “They were great, but it’s more the situation of who I made them with. In letting go of that relationship, I had to let go of that music… It’s like having a kid with someone. You might split with the person, but you don’t just stop loving the kid.”

Meanwhile, the rapper said of the collapse of their relationship: “I was really frustrated and hurt, and I wanted to scream. But it’s tricky starting off on that foot sometimes.”

According to Billboard, the situation is addressed on the first song on her new album, Lotus, with Simz rapping: “I’m lucky that I got out now, It’s a shame, I really feel sorry for your wife…This person I’ve known my whole life, coming like a devil in disguise.”Simz, who is set to curate this year’s Meltdown Festival, is set to release Lotus on June 6th. She will also headline Manchester’s Co-op Live and London’s O2 Arena later this year.
