Little Simz sues producer Inflo over £1.7 million loan

Little Simz is suing her former producer and Sault mastermind, Inflo, for failing to repay her a £1.7 million loan relating to performance and album recording costs.

It has emerged that the British rapper made a claim in January against Inflo, real name Dean Cover, after allegedly not being paid back the money she loaned the producer for the production of three albums she produced under the recording company Artists Without A Label (AWAL), which Cover encouraged her to sign to so she could self-produce her music.

According to Law 360, Little Simz lent Cover two payments of £350,000 and £275,000, respectively, to make the cost of creating her third album of the deal, believing she would be repaid any leftover funds once the project was completed, but the producer allegedly failed to hand this money back.

In addition, Little Simz is also suing Cover for a payment of £1 million she lent him in order to put on the first and only live show for Sault, the musical collective Cover helms, in December 2023 at Drumsheds in London.

She stipulated that he should pay her back within three days, but he again allegedly failed to do so, saying he was “still getting [his] deal over the line” and would “send [the money] back as soon as it lands.” In that same month, Little Simz sent Cover a further two loans totalling a cost of £700,000.

She has now filed the suit after being unable to pay her full tax liability in January 2024 due to Cover’s missing debts to her, which in turn incurred further interest and charges on the rapper financially.

Cover produced Little Simz’s previous albums, Grey Area, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, and No Thank You. He has not filed a defence to the claims against him yet.

Little Simz’s new albumLotus, will be released on May 9th. It was produced by Miles Clinton James rather than Inflo.
