Lindsay Lohan confirms ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel: “It’s happening”

After years of rumours, Lindsay Lohan has finally confirmed that a sequel to the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday is in the works, with both Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to reprise their roles.

Within the initial film, Curtis played a strict mother, while Lohan was her rebellious teenage daughter. The pair then swap bodies after an argument, allowing them to see life from the other’s perspective.

Speaking to SiriusXM on March 4th, Lohan affirmed the sequel is “happening” when asked about the rumoured upcoming production.

Although the star was unable to share any further details about the upcoming film, with regard to release date, plot, or personnel, she shared that both her and Curtis are excited to feature.

2003’s Freaky Friday was already a remake, with the original incarnation of the film coming in 1976 and starring Jodie Foster. However, Disney’s effort remains the definitive version of the story, thanks largely to the inclusion of Lohan and Curtis.

Disney themselves have already remade the 2003 classic, remodelling the story for a Disney Channel original film in 2018.

Lohan first discussed the idea of a sequel back in 2022, when she told Jimmy Fallon that she had already discussed the idea with Curtis.

Additionally, last year, the project seemed to have progressed, with Elyse Hollander brought on board to write the script.

Meanwhile, Lohan recently made a cameo in the remake of Mean Girls. Tina Fey’s musical adaptation of the 2004 film was the latest instalment in a run of media that capitalises on the nostalgia of the early 2000s, which Freaky Friday 2 will also form part of.
