Lily Allen to take break from podcast due to “spiralling” mental health

English singer Lily Allen has announced a break from her hit BBC Sounds podcast, Miss Me?, to prioritise her mental health, which she says is “spiralling”.

The pop star, who is now based in the United States, hosts the weekly podcast with her close friend and television presenter Miquita Oliver. However, Allen is now set to take a three-week break from Miss Me? as she deals with the ongoing “tough period” she is facing.

Allen admitted to Oliver that she’s “unable to concentrate on anything except the pain I’m going through” currently. Her comments come after it was reported Allen’s marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour has collapsed, but she didn’t directly address this speculation on the podcast.

“I’m finding it hard to be interested in anything. I’m really not in a good place,” Allen continued. “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiralling and spiralling and spiralling, and it’s got out of control. I’ve tried. I came to the Miss Me? Christmas lunch and had a panic attack and had to go home.”

Allen also said she went to the theatre recently and had to leave halfway through the show for similar reasons.

The musician confirmed that she hasn’t relapsed, but will need to take an extended break, explaining, “I’m going away next week for a few weeks listeners but I do want to reassure people because there will be speculation because of the amount of time I’m going to be taking away that I’m going to drug rehab – I’ve not, I’ve not relapsed.”

Her last album, No Shame, arrived in 2018. Since then, Allen has moved into acting, making her West End debut in 2:22 – A Ghost Story in 2021. She also starred in The Pillowman in 2023 at the Duke of York’s theatre and appeared in Sharon Horgan’s comedy-drama series Dreamland.

In a recent episode of Miss Me?, Allen revealed that she hopes to return to music later this year, stating that she is currently “trying to manifest” a new album.
