Liam Gallagher slyly references social media controversy at second Oasis Heaton Park show
Liam Gallagher made a cryptic comment during the second Oasis show at Heaton Park, appearing to reference a social media scandal that occurred only a few nights before their first reunion show.
Oasis returned for their second night in Manchester’s Heaton Park, racing through their setlist that is now becoming somewhat standard. However, Liam made an unusual remark before launching into the 1995 song ‘Some Might Say’.
Liam was wearing sunglasses on the second night, having learnt from his mistake on the first night of their homecoming. The musician then said, “Gotta wear the shades tonight, didn’t wear them last night, woke up this morning like a grasshopper? You’re allowed to say grasshopper, right?”
On July 1st, Liam faced intense backlash online after he posted the anti-Asian slur “chingchong” on his X account. In response to one fan, who wrote, “Liam you can’t say that”, he replied, “Why”. Another fan told Gallagher that he “might get cancelled today”, the frontman nonchalantly replied, “Whatever.”
Nonetheless, the post was soon deleted. He issued a short, snappy apology instead, writing, “Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. Peace and love.”
On the second night, nine people were arrested, adding to the six arrests made on 12th July. Five men and three women were arrested in three separate incidents on suspicion of fraud after attempting to access the show through fake accreditation. A man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a member of security staff.
Additionally, social media posts uploaded after the show depicted thousands gathering on a hill near Heaton Park with a direct view of the concert, to watch the Britpop brothers’ second night of homecoming for free.
The Britpop brothers will play three more nights at Heaton Park before heading to Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin and Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
