Liam Gallagher apologises for posting racial slur on the eve of Oasis comeback

Liam Gallagher has apologised for posting a racial slur on his account X days before Oasis reunite in Cardiff.

The upcoming tour is set to begin at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 4th, and Oasis will also play the same venue on July 5th before playing several dates at Heaton Park in Manchester, Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin and Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

However, on Tuesday, Gallagher posted the anti-Asian slur “chingchong” on his X account, which led to a huge backlash.

In response to one fan, who wrote, “Liam you can’t say that”, he replied, “Why”. Another fan told Gallagher that he “might get cancelled today”, the frontman nonchalantly replied, “Whatever.”

He later deleted the post containing the racial slur and issued an apology, writing, “Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. Peace and love.”

Later this year, Oasis are set to perform a number of huge concerts in South Korea and Japan. They will perform at the Tokyo Dome on October 25th and October 25th, as well as at the Goyang Sports Complex in South Korea on October 21st.

Gallagher has a history of posting offensive tweets. During the World Cup in 2022, Gallagher previously posted the ableist slur “mong”, aimed at then-England manager Gareth Southgate. He also said in another post, “Fuck you woke spastics”. Both of the posts were quickly deleted, but weren’t addressed by the Oasis frontman.

It’s now only two days before Gallagher reunites with his brother for the first time in 16 years in Cardiff, and earlier today, the full list of musicians performing with the band has been revealed in the official programme.

Gem Archer, Bonehead and Andy Bell, who all previously served in Oasis, are officially returning to the fold. Additionally, Joey Waronker, who performed with Liam Gallagher and John Squire last year, will be on the drums for the tour.

Furthermore, Christian Madden is on keyboards, Jess Greenfield is on backing vocals, Alastair White is on trombone, Steve Hamilton is on saxophone duties, and Joe Auckland will be playing the trumpet. Notably, Greenfield is also part of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

While both Gallagher brothers have not given any interviews ahead of the tour, Noel did appear on TalkSPORT last week and said of their return: “We finished rehearsing last Tuesday. We’ve got a few days off now and it’s sounding huge, so we’re all, ‘well this is it, there’s no going back now.’”
