Another year and another batch of Oasis reunion rumours have been unleashed as Liam Gallagher, the Mancunian legends’ former frontman has once again asked his older brother, Noel, to get the band back together again.
Younger brother Liam may well have been a welcome reprieve during the first national lockdown, lest we forget his helpful handwashing videos and general buffoonery on Twitter, but it seems he still has some bigger things on his mind. Namely, getting Oasis back together again for a bumper reunion designed to lift the spirits of the British people.
Having famously split in 2009, the Britpop legends have been subjected to reunion rumours ever since. The band have always been reliant on both brothers being included in any reunion meaning their long-running feud has often been a barrier too big to jump over. However, across many occasions, Liam Gallagher has tried to reach out to his brother, Noel.
Though it wasn’t the most overt request for a reunion, instead opting for a rather more subtle: “HNY Noel love you long time 2021 is our year c’mon you know LG x” It has still got the rumour mill working into overdrive.
With the message a few days old and Noel refusing to acknowledge it, chances are that Oasis taking to a stage in 2021 is very unlikely, with or without a global pandemic. But there is the glimmer of imagined hope that maybe they can get it together.
There’s perhaps no more goosebump-inducing moment than the idea of Oasis at Hyde Park in 2021, singing ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ to a thousands-strong crowd who are all belting it back. While we live in hope, check out their performance of the song at Knebworth for a taste of it.
