Lewis Capaldi donates 734,000 hours of therapy with mental health organisation
Lewis Capaldi has partnered with the mental health organisation BetterHelp to donate 734,000 hours of free therapy, reflecting on his own struggles over the past two years.
The singer, who has spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health issues and Tourette’s Syndrome, made a triumphant return to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on June 27th, surprising crowds with a 35-minute slot after he was unable to finish his set at the festival in 2023.
His comeback single, ‘Survive’, released on the same day, quickly topped the charts in the UK and has become one of the fastest-selling songs of the year so far.
Reflecting on what allowed him to get on the road to recovery, Capaldi released a video with BetterHelp to explain his struggles with anxiety, where he said: “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again. I don’t think I’ll ever stop going to therapy after the impact it’s had on my life over the past two years. I want to support my fans as they’ve supported me, which is why I’m donating 734,000 hours together with BetterHelp.”
The specific number of hours of donated therapy matches the 734 days that the Scottish singer spent out of the spotlight in order to focus on his recovery.
Capaldi has continued on his comeback by appearing as a surprise guest at Noah Kahan’s headline concert in London’s Hyde Park on July 4th, performing the singer’s hit ‘Northern Attitude’.
He is also set to embark on a tour across the UK and Ireland in the coming months, the presale for which begins on July 8th and general sale becomes available on July 10th.
