Leon Bridges announces new album ‘Happiness Anytime’, shares four new tracks
Leon Bridges has confirmed details of his new album, Happiness Anytime.
The forthcoming release is set for release on September 25th through Columbia Records, which he previewed at the Jazz Cafe in London on July 16th and will perform another show at the intimate venue tonight (July 17th).
He has also recently played similar pop-up shows in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, as well as at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Intriguingly, the 12-track release is set to be released as three EPs before the full album arrives in September. The first EP, containing ‘Light The Way,’ ‘Tears of Joy,’ ‘Illusion,’ and ‘Your Love Is Electric’, is out now.
For the new album, Bridges has teamed up with Jungle’s J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto, who are on production duties.
Lloyd-Watson said of the music that inspired the record, “We’d been listening to a lot of South American music and Sergio Mendes. We infused it with these Latin rhythms and African rhythms — music that had groove and soul and feeling.”
Meanwhile, Kitto added of their mission statement for the album, “It’s music you can put on no matter how you’re feeling, and it makes you feel happy and it makes you want to get up and dance.”
Similarly, Bridges added, “For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase. I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones. There’s this feeling that we have to fix the problems of the world; you feel inadequate or it can be debilitating. My role is to be light. I hope that comes across with this album.”
Beyond his show tonight at the Jazz Cafe, Bridges doesn’t have any further shows announced for Happiness Anytime, but if his recent record suggests anything, then keep your eyes peeled for more last-minute shows.
