Leeds Festival 2024: Skrillex set cancelled after Chevron Stage closed

Leeds Festival have revealed that the newly-opened Chevron Stage will not be open on August 23rd due to extreme weather. It was due to be headlined by internationally-renowned electronic artist Skrillex.

The latest blow to the first day of proceedings on August 23rd after the start to the Main Stage was delayed due to Storm Lillian, causing Corella, The Crawlers, and The Luka State to not perform at Leeds Festival.

Furthermore, the BBC Radio 1 Stage, which was set to be headlined by Beabadoobee, will now longer be opened on August 23rd. Other acts who have had their sets axed include Alfie Templeman, AshNikko, and Destroy Boys.

Artists affected by the cancellation have begun taking to social media to share their dismay at not being able to perform at the prestigious festival. Beabadoobee wrote on X, “This is so sad, I had a whole outfit planned. Well I’ll see u guys at Reading!!! I’ll b back in Leeds soon I hope sorry about this guys I love you.”

Additionally, Crawlers have described the news as “heartbreaking” and labelled Leeds as their “dream festival” in a social media post. Meanwhile, Corella shared a video to fans explaining that “the weather isn’t on our side” but assured that “we will be back and keep our held high.” Corella have also announced a last-minute free show at The Key Club in Leeds this evening to make it up to fans.

Chevron Stage closure

Now, the Chevron Stage is the latest casualty caused by Storm Lillian. The outside arena was set to be headlined by Skrillex, as well as host performances from a series of significant names such as Nia Archives, Dom Dolla and Kenny Beats.

Leeds Festival said in a statement: “Thank you all for your patience today. Unfortunately in light of updated site reports and despite our best efforts, the Chevron stage will not be able to open as planned today in Leeds. It will open as scheduled for the rest of the weekend.”

They concluded: “Thank you for your understanding, we will update you again as soon as possible.”

Due to the closure of other stages across the festival, this could potentially lead to an overcrowding issue later this evening as acts such as Skrillex and Beabadoobee would have generated huge crowds to their respective areas.

Leeds Festival is still set to be headlined by Liam Gallagher and Catfish and the Bottlemen on August 23rd, weather permitting. The former Oasis frontman is scheduled to play Oasis’ Definitely Maybe in its entirety to celebrate its 30th anniversary following a set from Catfish, who are currently on the comeback trial following a lengthy hiatus. With little else on, both artists will likely be performing to the majority of the 100,000 ticket holders.
