Leeds Festival 2024: Main Stage acts have sets cancelled due to extreme weather
Due to extreme weather conditions at Leeds Festival, the start to the Main Stage has been delayed causing four acts to have their sets cancelled.
The issues relate to Storm Lillian, which is currently making its way through northern England. Gusts are expected to reach speeds of 80 miles per hour, which could lead to power cuts, and 20 to 30 millimetres of rainfall is also set to land on the festival site.
As a result, the BBC Radio 1 Stage, which was set to be headlined by Beabadoobee, will no longer be opened on August 23rd. Other acts who have had their sets axed include Alfie Templeman, AshNikko, and Destroy Boys. Furthermore, the Aux Stage, which was set to stage podcasts throughout the day, will also be closed.
In a statement, the festival shared: “We can see an end in sight to the high winds. We definitely won’t be opening the arena at 11am, but we are targeting as soon as possible after that and we will update you further. However, we have definitely lost the BBC Radio 1 stage today, and there will be no performances on it.”
Beabadoobee has since responded to the news, writing on X, “This is so sad, I had a whole outfit planned. Well I’ll see u guys at Reading!!! I’ll b back in Leeds soon I hope sorry about this guys I love you.”
Additionally, Templeman said on social media, “I’m really gutted about this, I’m so so sorry to anyone that wanted to catch our set today in Leeds but multiple stages are no longer standing and we’ve been told our slot is cancelled 🙁 Leeds we’ll make it up to you as soon as possible, so so much love to you all”.
Now, in a new update, Leeds Festival have revealed that Bru-C will be the opening act on the Main Stage at 3:10pm on August 23rd. Therefore, The Luka State, Corella, and The Crawlers will no longer be performing at Bramham Park.
Crawlers have described the news as “heartbreaking” and labelled Leeds as their “dream festival” in a social media post. Meanwhile, Corella shared a video to fans explaining that “the weather isn’t on our side” but assured that “we will be back and keep our held high”.
Leeds Festival is still set to be headlined by Liam Gallagher and Catfish and the Bottlemen on August 23rd, weather permitting. The former Oasis frontman is scheduled to play Oasis’ Definitely Maybe in its entirety to celebrate its 30th anniversary following a set from Catfish, who are currently on the comeback trial following a lengthy hiatus.
