
Larry David pays tribute to Richard Lewis
Following the tragic passing of comedic actor Richard Lewis, Larry David has shared a heartfelt tribute to his former Curb Your Enthusiasm castmate.
His statement comes after news of Lewis’s death was announced earlier on February 28th following a fatal heart attack. In a statement given by Lewis’s agent Jeff Abraham, confirming Lewis’s passing, saying, “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time”.
Despite being friends for many years, David had only started working with Lewis when he picked up a recurring role on the hit HBO series. After stepping down for the show’s eleventh season, Lewis made a surprise appearance during one episode of the newest season.
In his statement, David talked about the connection he shared with Lewis, saying, “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital, and for most of my life, he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest”.
Over the course of the show, Lewis would pop in during the series to have a back-and-forth with David, playing a fictionalised version of what they were like in reality. Lewis had since stepped down from working on the show after announcing a battle with Parkinson’s disease in 2023.
Even though he was not commissioned to work on the show for his cameo for season 11, David was overjoyed to see him back in action, even giving him a hug when he arrived on set.
While David said he was broken up regarding Lewis’s death, he did add his trademark sense of humour to his tribute, remarking, “today he made me sob, and for that I’ll never forgive him”.
David is also in the process of airingthe 12th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which he announced would be its final run of new episodes. There has been no word on whether or not Lewis will return for any posthumous cameos.
