Larry David and Barack Obama to make new history sketch comedy show

Larry David is set to join forces with Barack Obama to create a brand new history sketch comedy show.

The as-yet-untitled programme, set for HBO, will see the former president team up with the comedy icon for a new series to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States and celebrate the story of their country’s history.

Obama said of the project: “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”

Meanwhile, David, who drew Curb Your Enthusiasm to a close after more than 20 years in 2024, said of the new series: “Once Curb ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow.”

David continued: “Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive.”

The comedy hero is set to write the sketches alongside his longtime Curb Your Enthusiasm collaborator Jeff Schaffer, and it will be produced by Higher Ground, founded by the Obama family in 2017. Each episode will be 30 minutes.

The upcoming series is David’s first project since Curb Your Enthusiasm ended last year. Previously explaining the decision to bring the beloved seminal show to a conclusion, David said on Today: “I’m too old to really be on camera every single week now, to act the way I do on this show. How can I continue to act like that? It’s insane. I’m not going into the 80s acting like that.”

There is currently no release date for the upcoming comedy series by David and Obama.
