The Obamas set to produce Tiger Woods biopic
Michelle and Barack Obama‘s production company is in talks to produce a biopic on legendary golf star Tiger Woods.
According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios have secured the rights to turn Kevin Cook’s book Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played into a movie. Directing duties will be handled by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who previously chronicled the rise to fame of Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard, which won Will Smith an Oscar for ‘Best Leading Actor’.
The Obamas will be helped with production duties by Irwin Winkler, who previously worked on Goodfellas, Rocky and Creed.
Although Woods’s career has been shrouded in scandal, that will not play a part in the forthcoming movie, which will instead focus on his rise to the top, his becoming the first Black golfer in history to win a major in 1997, and his conquering the sport.
Three years later, Woods was an unstoppable force in golf and nobody could come close to matching his greatness on the green. In 2000 and 2001, Woods won four major titles in golf on the bounce which became known as The Tiger Slam, hence the title of Cook’s book.
Cook, a sports journalist with Sports Illustrated and Golf Monthly, documents in his book how Woods accomplished The Tiger Slam, including seeing it from the perspective of caddies and others who helped him become an unbeatable force of nature.
Currently, Woods’ career seemingly hangs in the balance after he suffered an Achilles injury which will keep him off the course for the foreseeable future.
