Never one to shy away from a laidback jam, Lana Del Rey has provided us with a quite brilliant cover of Sublime’s track ‘Doin’ Time’ for a song to soundtrack your summer to. As dark as it is dusky, the song is typical Lana.
While we all still await the album Norman Fucking Rockwell to drop on our stereos from Lana Del Rey, the artist has given us another reason to be excited with this epic cover. Released back in 1997 the song focuses on the lover of the protagonists and how her cheating ways coupled with her poor treatment leaves him feeling as if he’s in a prison.
Lana manages to take this sentiment and completely own it. Moving the track from its roots to a more modern place while still paying homage to the original. Del Rey adds her trademark laconic vocal and with it provides a sultry and sullen spin on this pop tune.

Lana Del Rey has released ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’, ‘Venice Bitch’ and ‘hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it’ from Norman Fucking Rockwell LP already, but we’re still awaiting the full length.
Del Rey is making up for the long wait time with this cover and will also self-publish a book this year to coincide with the release.
