Lana Del Rey provides update on new album ahead of Reading and Leeds

Ahead of her performances at Reading and Leeds this weekend, Lana Del Rey has further teased her new album, Lasso, revealing the record won’t be a full-blown country affair.

When the singer announced the new album in January, she explained that Lasso would be a country record, which left many concerned that she would be making a departure from her current sound. Yet, the singer’s music is constantly evolving, and with Lasso, she has ensured that these experiments with the country genre are built upon her pre-existing sound.

She previously said in January, “We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

Del Rey also praised producer, Jack Antonoff, saying he was a “one in a million” and claimed the Bleachers frontman was “born under one of those talent, lucky musical stars”.

Now, in a new interview with Vogue, Del Rey said, “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like Honeymoon which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure,” adding, “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production—which again, so many of my songs already are.”

Lasso is set for release in September, although an official date hasn’t been confirmed. Del Rey has delayed albums various times in the past, and therefore, the same could occur with the pending album. Still, the singer has already released ‘Tough’ featuring Quavo, and she claims that more singles are on the way, “We have two more coming out by the end of the year!”

Last year, Del Rey released her ninth studio album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, which was critically acclaimed. It contained collaborations with artists such as Father John Misty, Tommy Genesis, and Jon Batiste.

Del Rey is currently playing a string of festival dates, having just performed at Rock en Seine in France. She’ll head to Reading on August 24th to play for eager fans before traveling up to Leeds for the second leg of the festival on August 25th. She is set to headline the festival alongside Blink-182, Gerry Cinnamon, Fred Again, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Liam Gallagher.

If her recent set-lists are anything to go by, we can expect her to open with tracks such as ‘Without You’, ‘West Coast’, ‘Summertime Sadness’ and ‘Cherry’ before playing other popular numbers like ‘Video Games’, ‘Born to Die’, ‘Young and Beautiful’ and ‘A&W’.
