Holly Macve teams up with Lana Del Rey on new single ‘Suburban House’
Holly Macve has joined forces with Lana Del Rey for their first collaborative single ‘Suburban House’.
The Yorkshire-based Macve first met Del Rey several years ago though Instagram. The pair formed a close friendship thereafter, leading to a support slot at Lana’s headline show at BST Hyde Park, and the duo have also spent some fruitful hours in the studio together this year.
‘Suburban House’ will form part of Macve’s new solo album, which is scheduled for release in 2024. “I sometimes feel my intuition wrote this song for me,” Macve said of the single in a new press release. “I was temporarily living in a Suburban house from the ’50s on the outskirts of West London.
“It was like a time capsule and hadn’t been changed since the ’70s. There was a beautiful old piano there and one day I sat down and the song came to me unexpectedly all at once. The song made perfect sense to me only a week later…”
“A few months later, I visited Lana whilst in LA, and we shared new songs with each other,” she continued. “I played this to her live and that was the start of it becoming a duet. When I first heard her sing the second verse it was like a dream, her voice was just so perfect for the song and heavenly sounding…
“It goes without saying that I am a huge fan of hers, she’s an inspiration to me in many different ways so when she DM’d me I was pretty shook (to say the least).”
Del Rey followed Macve in 2017. The aspiring Irish-born singer then messaged the American star on the off chance. “Hey, thanks so much for the follow. Big fan of your music, hope we cross paths at some point,” she wrote.
The American replied: “I am a huge huge fan and I just think you are so blessed with a gorgeous voice. I hope everything’s been going well for you..send your email if you want. Lots of love, Lana.”
“Ever since I heard Holly’s music, I knew she had one of the most beautiful singing voices in the world,” Del Rey said of the new collaboration. “Her flawless, emotional vocals have inspired me over the last six years and I love her songs and I’m especially proud of featuring on this one.”
