Lady Gaga to perform free concert for a million people in Brazil
Lady Gaga has announced a huge concert in Brazil, set to take place at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on May 3rd, 2025.
The performance, part of the Todo Mundo no Rio cultural scheme, will be free to attend, and the vast outdoor arena can hold a million people. Previously, Rod Stewart performed to 3.5 million people at Copacabana Beach on New Year’s Eve in 1994, which was also free to attend for the public.
On Instagram, Gaga wrote: “It’s a great honor to be asked to sing for Rio—for my whole career, the fans in Brazil have been part of the lifeblood of the little monsters. I’ve been dying to come perform for you for years and was heartbroken when I had to cancel years ago because I was hospitalized.”
Gaga was previously set to visit Brazil in 2017 for a headline performance at Rock In Rio. However, the singer suffered health issues that forced her to cancel the eagerly awaited appearance. She last performed in the South American country in 2012.
Acknowledging her prior cancellation, Gaga added: “Your understanding that I needed that time to heal meant the world to me. I am now coming back and I feel better than ever and am working so hard to make sure this show is one you will never forget. Get ready for MAYHEM on the beach.”
Her upcoming trip to Brazil coincides with Gaga’s seventh album, Mayhem, set to arrive on March 7th, 2025. She will also headline Coachella Festival in California alongside Green Day, Post Malone and Travis Scott.
In a previous statement, Gaga explained of Mayhem: “The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.”
Additionally, Gaga described the creative process as “reassembling a shattered mirror: even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”
