Kristin Cabot quits Astronomer following Coldplay kiss cam affair scandal

Astronomer’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot, has resigned from the company after a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert caught her having an affair with the company’s then-CEO.

While performing the Coldplay song ‘Sparks’ at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, the band turned their attention to the crowd. They singled out attendees and cast them on a big screen; during this segment of the show, Cabot and CEO Andy Byron were caught in an embrace despite both being married.

Following the show, a clip of the incident immediately went viral, racking up hundreds of millions of viewers. It has since been parodied on television shows and at sports games, and even Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher referenced it at one of their reunion shows.

A fraudulent statement from Byron quickly went viral. In it, the alleged CEO used the lyrics from the Coldplay ballad ‘Fix You’ to express his shame and regret. The company then released a statement, saying they had launched an investigation into the matter but that any statement from Byron was falsified. That statement also addressed the misidentification of a third person seen on the kiss cam.

Astronomer first announced the CEO’s decision to step down, saying, “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”

Now, the firm has confirmed with the BBC that Cabot has followed in Byron’s footsteps and has resigned from her leadership position in the company.

Despite the attention placed on the company, Astronomer has promised to focus purely on its product from now on. They promised, “While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”

Since the announcement, Byron and Cabot have not released an official statement addressing their actions during the concert. There has also been no word from Byron’s wife, but she removed his name from her social media accounts within 24 hours of the video going viral.
