‘KPop Demon Hunters’ writers to pen Tim Burton’s next movie
Tim Burton‘s next movie is set to get the KPop Demon Hunters treatment, as the writers behind the Netflix sensation are slated to pen Burton’s upcoming project.
In 2024, it was announced that Burton would take on a new version of the vintage sci-fi classic Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, alongside Gillian Flynn.
Now, it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan have taken Flynn’s place and are set to team up with Burton to write his version of the iconic sci-fi fable.
The original movie was directed by Nathan H. Juran and released in 1958, with Allison Hayes starring in the titular role. The cult classic follows Nancy, whose life is changed forever when she encounters an alien who leads her to transform into a giant woman.
Jimenez and McMechan have only a few shorts and experience on a Disney Channel show to their name, while Burton’s film discography is expansive and instantly recognisable.
Sharing their excitement at the news, the writers told THR, “We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty. We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”
Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman was remade as a television film by Christopher Guest in 1993, with Daryl Hannah playing the eponymous character. It has also acted as the source material for multiple parodies.
Burton is riding the high of a banner year with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in 2024. The long-awaited sequel to his 1988 supernatural comedy earned $452million globally. This proved his continued draw at the box office nearly four decades after the original, due in part to the mythical, gothic tendencies of his work.
It is not yet known who will star in the remake of Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, but Margot Robbie was reportedly in early talks to join the project.
