Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn teaming up for ‘Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman’ remake

Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn are teaming up for a new version of the vintage sci-fi classic Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman.

The original movie was directed by Nathan H. Juran and released in 1958, with Allison Hayes playing the titular character. The cult classic follows Nancy, whose life is rocked when she encounters an alien who leads her to transform into a giant woman.

Independently made, the film was often shown as a double feature with Roger Corman’s War of the Satellites and has since become known as an iconic ’50s sci-fi movie with a dedicated cult following.

However, Burton will be putting his own signature twist on the film, with Flynn penning the screenplay, as reported by Deadline. Flynn is best known for penning the novel behind David Fincher’s 2014 film Gone Girl, also writing the screenplay. In addition, she also wrote the celebrated and Emmy-nominated HBO series Sharp Objects, starring Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson.

Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman was remade as a television film by Christopher Guest in 1993, with Daryl Hannah playing the eponymous character. It has also acted as the source material for multiple parodies.

However, a collaboration between Burton and Flynn makes for a very promising reimagining of the ’50s classic, with the pair having had a hand in making some of the best cinema of the modern century.

The news comes as Burton fans eagerly await the release of his upcoming movie, the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Little is known about the sequel, aside from that it will feature icons of the original film, such as Catherine O’Hara, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, and. a scattering of newcomers like Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci.
