Kneecap share video for new single ‘Sayōnara’ with Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll
Kneecap have returned with the new single ‘Sayōnara’, a collaboration with Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll.
The new release is their second single of the year, following ‘The Recap‘ with Mozey, but is described as a stand-alone track rather than the beginning of a new album campaign.
‘Sayōnara’ was written and recorded alongside Hartnoll, and also arrives alongside a video from Finn Keenan, featuring Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, who starred as Michelle in the acclaimed Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls.
O’Donnell said of appearing in the video: “I had the best time filming the ‘Sayōnara’ music video. Not only is it a massive banger of a track but the intense yet euphoric video is sure to be remembered. The creativity and vision of director, Finn, created a fantastic environment for us all to create something really special.”
The actor continued: “I was delighted to have been asked to be involved in this project especially as I am already a huge fan of Kneecap’s music and an admirer of their work overall.”
‘Sayōnara’ will be released on 12″ vinyl as a double A-side with ‘The Recap’. The green vinyl edition, which was available exclusively via Kneecap’s WhatsApp channel has already sold out, but it can be pre-ordered on black vinyl ahead of release on October 10th.
This month, Kneecap have a host of European dates on their agenda before they play their biggest English headline date at Wembley Arena in London on September 18th. Later this year, they will embark on a sold-out UK tour, which includes a huge sold-out date at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, before ending 2025 with two shows at the 3Arena in Dublin.
Kneecap had been due to kick off their US tour in New York on October 1st, but this was cancelled due to their ongoing legal battle in the UK. In May, the band’s Mo Chara was charged with a terror offence relating to his alleged behaviour at a concert.
Chara most recently appeared in court on August 20th. At the hearing, the judge adjourned making a ruling on the case. He is next set to appear in court on September 26th.
