Kneecap release ‘The Recap’ ahead of Glastonbury
Kneecap have officially released their new single ‘The Recap’ with Mozey ahead of their set at the Glastonbury Festival later this week.
‘The Recap’ has been played in the Irish group’s live sets this summer, which addresses their recent legal controversy, including their headline set at the Wide Awake Festival in London last month and at Fairview Park in Dublin on June 19th.
“ITS HERE A CHAIRDE GAEL,” the band wrote on X. Kneecap continued: “THE RECAP ft. MOZEY is officially out now in all the usual spots…Spotify etc. See yiz all at Glastonbury for a proper mad one. SATURDAY – WEST HOLTS – 16:00pm”.
Kneecap are still set to perform at Glastonbury despite Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s request that the festival cancel their appearance.
Speaking to The Sun, Starmer said of the band’s scheduled set: “No, I don’t, and I think we need to come down really clearly on this.” He continued, “This is about the threats that shouldn’t be made, I won’t say too much because there’s a court case on, but I don’t think that’s appropriate.”
Kneecap have since responded to Starmer’s comments, writing on X, “You know what’s ‘not appropriate’ Keir?! Arming a fucking genocide… Fuck The Sun and solidarity with Palestine Action”.
Additionally, Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, who is mentioned by name in ‘The Recap’, said on social media: “The BBC should not be showing Kneecap propaganda. One Kneecap band member is currently on bail, charged under the Terrorism Act. As a publicly funded platform, the BBC should not be rewarding extremism.”
Last week, hundreds of protestors appeared outside of Westminster Magistrates Court to support the band’s Mo Chara ahead of a hearing after he was charged with a terror offence relating to a video from their November 2024 concert at O2 Kentish Town Forum, London.
During his court appearance, Liam Ó hAnnaidh spoke only to confirm his name and address. The rapper has been released on unconditional bail and will next appear in court on August 20th.
Following the hearing, Ó hAnnaidh spoke outside the court to the crowds that gathered alongside his Kneecap bandmates while draped in a keffiyeh. He also looked ahead to Glastonbury, stating, “For anybody going to Glastonbury, you can see us there”, before adding, “If you can’t be there, we’ll be on the BBC, if anybody watches the BBC.”
