Kings of Leon cancel all June and July dates after “freak accident”

Rock band Kings of Leon have been forced to cancel all upcoming shows in June and July after frontman Followill suffered a “freak accident”.

“I’ve broken my foot bad playing with my kids. I’ll spare you the details but it was pretty gnarly,” Followill said, showing his leg in plaster on a post on the band’s Instagram page.

The frontman appeared downhearted. He shared, “It’s a big bummer because we were so excited and had been preparing for this tour for a long time. We’ve been in the studio recording a bunch of new music that we were going to debut. But now we have to pivot and do whatever work we can while I have these limitations.”

Followill confirmed he has undergone emergency surgery after shattering his heel. He is now unable to travel or perform for at least eight weeks, hence the cancellations extending into July.

Shows they have cancelled include a headline slot at the Lytham Festival in Lancashire, as well as a performance at Cardiff’s Blackweir Fields. Cardiff concert-goers will receive a full refund for the 29th June show.

Other impacted shows include Mad Cool Festival in Madrid and Belgium’s Rock Werchter. They have yet to reschedule any of the ten cancelled shows, but seem eager to take the stage as soon as possible. This may include Followill performing later summer dates with extra assistance.

Far Out wrote of Kings of Leon’s 2024 album, Can We Please Have Fun: “They ditched mainstream pop-rock tropes and actually tried to apply themselves in a manner aligned to the present post-punk boom. The results were fair, but incongruous. It was like your father trying on the latest young fashion trend, oddly pulling it off to an extent, but never convincingly enough for it to be ‘clothing’ rather than a ‘costume’.”
