Kid Cudi cuts MIA as support act after “offensive” on-stage remarks

Kid Cudi has booted MIA off the line-up of his ‘The Rebel Ragers Tour’ following controversial comments about potential “illegal” immigrants in the audience of his shows.

The British-Sri Lankan rapper appeared in the support act slot for Kid Cudi’s show at the Dallas venue, Dos Equis Pavilion, on May 2nd.

According to Consequence, the ‘Paper Planes’ star allegedly said on stage, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.”

Additionally, the singer reportedly complained that she wasn’t able to sing her 2010 track, ‘Illegal’, which tackles the dehumanisation of refugees, because “there’s probably one in the crowd”. The singer was met with a barrage of “boos”.

In response, Kid Cudi took to his Instagram Story on May 4th to address the disappointing display of showmanship, writing succinctly, “MIA is no longer on this tour.”

The ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’ singer added, “I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, because I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood.”

However, the backlash to her recent performance made it into the star’s inbox: “After the last couple of shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing and I won’t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase.”

This isn’t the first time the star has been fired from a position. In 2022, she was dropped from the GQ Men Of The Year Awards following a series of controversial tweets about covid vaccinations.

From there, the previously on-the-rise star launched a clothing line meant to block 5G waves in 2024 on Alex Jones’ Infowars.

Kid Cudi is still set to play his next live show on May 5th in Birmingham, Alabama.
