Kelis Rogers, the American singer, songwriter and chef, is teaming up with Netflix for a new cannabis-themed cooking show.
Cooked with Cannabis, the cooking competition show, will see three professional chefs pitted against each other and tasked with creating a three-course cannabis-infused meal for a $10,000 prize.
Kelis will host the show alongside Portland-based chef Leather Storrs and it will be made six-episode as part of the first season with rotating dinner guests.
“As a chef, I was intrigued by the food and as an everyday person, I was interested in how powerful this topic is in today’s society,” Kelis said in a post on social media. “In this country, many things have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, but this is so culturally important for us to learn and grow together.”
“Cooked with Cannabis is a show where weed is a seasoning rather than the reason. It’s granular, educational, heartfelt and smart,” Storrs told Food & Wine. “The contestants had personal and romantic relationships with the herb and they knew its intricacies: medically, chemically, spiritually and as an intoxicant. Further, there was a real sense of community and camaraderie.”
Kelis added: “In this country, there are so many things that have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, so this could be all fun and games, but you look at it and go, you know what, this is important. People’s lives have been affected in a really positive and negative way, and how do we take some control back?”
The show will launch on Netflix on April 20th… 4/20, of course.
