Watch Keanu Reeves perform ‘Breach’ with Dogstar on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Dogstar, the alt-rock band that features Hollywood star Keanu Reeves on bass, were welcomed to Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform ‘Breach’, the closing track on their new album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.

In the early 1990s, Reeves excelled in stand-out acting roles in Point Break and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. However, at around that same time, the young actor began to balance his acting aspirations with concerted efforts in the realm of grunge music as the bassist for Dogstar.

The band formed in 1991 after Reeves met the actor and musician Robert Mailhouse on a Californian street. Mailhouse was wearing a Detroit Red Wings hockey jersey, and Reeves, a huge fan of the sport, asked if Mailhouse needed a goalie. The pair soon became well-acquainted over a few garage jam sessions. As it turned out, Mailhouse needed a bassist, not a goalie.

“You know, we started in a garage, and then you end up starting to write songs, and then you’re like, ‘Let’s go out and play them!’ and then you’re like, ‘Let’s go on tour!’ and then… you’re playing,” Reeves told Jimmy Fallon in 2017.

Over the past 20 years, Reeves has taken some time to focus on his acting career but remained close with Mailhouse. Earlier this year, Dogstar announced their reunion with a message posted to their Instagram account: “Last set up on the roof in Lincoln Heights for Dogstar photo shoot. Exciting news coming soon. Thanks for being so patient.”

On October 6th, Dogstar released their third studio album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, following a summer of touring commitments. Following their performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dogstar will kick off the final leg of their reunion tour on November 30th with a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.
