Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has delighted fans by realising two brand new songs for the ‘Sub Pop Single Club’ in the form of ‘to Perth, before the border closes’ and ‘CRY’.
The Sub Pop Singles Club previously released Father John Misty’s AA-Side in August, ‘To R’ and ‘To S’. The iconic label’s famous singles club has been an institution since 1988 with previous alumni including the likes of Nirvana, Bright Eyes, Soundgarden, The White Stripes and many more.
In a statement, Jacklin states, “I’ve moved around a lot the last five years; chasing things, love, work, something new, whatever and there’s always this fear that I’m leaving good things behind just to go somewhere else and be lonely. Whispering ‘everything changes’ to myself helps get me to sleep at night.”
This is Jacklin’s first piece of brand new original music since her 2019 sophomore LP Crushing, which Far Out heaped praise upon saying, “The best thing about Crushing is that all of the above growth and development effortlessly falls in line next to one another and because of it shows Julia Jacklin as one of the more important artists of the moment.”
“Whether it’s offering a nuanced view on the world around us, strengthening her personal resolve or simply providing beautiful songs, it’s clear to us that Julia Jacklin will be singing to our souls for years to come,” the review added.
