Julia Jacklin has shared the music video for single ‘Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You’, a track taken from her quite brilliant sophomore record, Crushing which was released earlier this year.
Filmed with her longtime visual collaborator Nick Mckk in the upstairs function room of a Turkish restaurant called Alaska on Melbourne’s Sydney road. “I find it sad how much we can never really know how someone’s feeling no matter how much we think we know them,” Jacklin said in a statement.
“We’re all holding back in someway. Our inner lives can be so weird and loud that we all have to hold back a bit in order to exist and function in the world. He’s not really a part of what’s she’s processing in that costume shop red dress, he can’t really be let into those thoughts, she’s gotta figure it out herself.”
Crushing, the second full-length album from Jacklin, is an album created with intensity of feeling, a detailed and raw tale of heartbreak, infatuation and isolation. “In all the songs, you can hear every sound from every instrument; you can hear my throat and hear me breathing,” Jacklin said of the album. “It was really important to me that you can hear everything for the whole record, without any studio tricks getting in the way.”
She added: “With the first album I was so nervous and didn’t quite see myself as a musician yet, but after touring for two years, I’ve come to feel like I deserve to be in that space.”
Now, with the release of the new video for the heartbreakingly poignant ‘Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You’, Jacklin is also preparing to head out on the road in the UK for a string of tour dates starting in November. Full details below.
