Judge claims Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is looking at facing six to seven years in prison
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs is preparing to be sentenced for his prostitution charges. The hip-hop mogul appeared in court on October 3rd to find out his sentence, with the judge stating he’s looking at a six to seven-year sentence.
Earlier this year, Combs was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, but was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Speaking in court, Judge Arun Subramanian stated that he doesn’t see a reason to deviate from the sentencing guidelines, which are 70 to 87 months.
Each of his prostitution charges carry a maximum 10-year sentence, which would result in 20 years behind bars.
However, prosecutors have pushed for at least 11 years and three months in prison, pointing out the seriousness of his crimes.
“Punishment for his crimes of conviction must take into account the manner in which he committed them,” they wrote. “His crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over ten years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Sean Combs, engaged in violence and put others in fear.”
Combs’ defence team have asked for a 14-month sentence, which would see him released this year, taking into account time served.
In court, defence attorney Nicole Westmoreland said, “Mr Combs is not larger than life — he’s just a human being, he’s just a man and he’s made some mistakes. He has flaws like we all do. But, judge, how many of us can say that we’ve helped so many lives?”
Despite the hearing beginning on October 3rd, it could drag on to October 6th, following arguments from each side.
The sentencing hearing continues.
