Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce confirmed for Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars’
The cast of Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars has grown, as Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce have all been confirmed to join.
They will star alongside Jacob Elordi, who was confirmed for the movie in January. Elordi’s part was initially supposed to be played by Paul Mescal, but he had to exit the film due to conflicts with scheduling. Production for Scott’s newest offering is said to begin in Italy at the end of April 2025.
Scott revealed that Mescal wouldn’t be involved in the movie during a conversation he had with Christopher Nolan following the screening of Gladiator II. He said that it was unlikely Mescal would be involved in the project due to his rumoured portrayal of Paul McCarney in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics, saying, “Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”
The new movie is based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel of the same name. The text was adapted for the screen by Mark L Smith, who previously worked on Twisters. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world, which represents the last remnants of society lingering around a deadly virus that takes out nearly half of the global population.
The story follows a pilot named Hig (Jacob Elordi) and his unlikely friendship with a gunman (Josh Brolin). The two of them find themselves in trouble when they need to outlast a roaming group of scavengers. Qualley will play a young doctor named Cima, while Pearce will star as her father.
The film is an epic undertaking, but unlikely to be anything that Scott shouldn’t be able to handle. The director has notably taken on huge projects in the past, including movies such as Gladiator, Blade Runner, Alien, Napoleon and Thelma & Louise.
