Jon Bon Jovi thanks Oasis for bringing stadium rock back: “Rock is alive and well”
Jon Bon Jovi has congratulated Oasis for their role in the resurgence in stadium rock.
Next summer, Bon Jovi will be touring for the first time in four years with dates lined-up at Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin, the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh and a four-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York.
To celebrate the announcement, their frontman appeared in front of the media, including Far Out, at a press conference at Wembley Stadium on October 24th to look ahead to Bon Jovi’s huge run of shows next summer.
Notably, in recent years, more acts are playing stadiums. In the UK this summer, Oasis stole the headlines with seven nights at Wembley Stadium, but Sam Fender also completed stadium shows, as did Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Imagine Dragons, Post Malone, Dua Lipa and more.
During the press conference, Bon Jovi, who has been performing in stadiums for decades, said of the growing trend: “I think post-Covid, people wanted that kind of experiential thing. They wanted to get together again and feel that joy. So it is. It’s bigger than ever. There was a time ten, 12, years ago that I used to hear people say, ‘Rock is dead’. I think rock is alive and well again.”

He then spoke about Oasis specifically and the long-term impact of their historic summer, adding, “So the promise of what Oasis brought last year is going to give a lot of young rock bands an opportunity to shine again.”
The ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ singer added, “I think that it’s good that stadium acts are able to fill buildings and people are enjoying themselves.”
Bon Jovi have a longstanding history with Wembley Stadium. They were the final act to perform at the old Wembley Stadium in 2000, and were due to be the first band to play the new Wembley Stadium in 2006; however, the concert was moved to Milton Keynes as the stadium wasn’t ready. Bon Jovi eventually made up for lost time when they headlined Wembley Stadium in 2019.
