Johnny Marr says Oasis tour has been the “biggest reunion of all time”
Johnny Marr has hailed the Oasis tour as the “biggest reunion of all time”.
Oasis have been on a run to remember throughout 2025 since returning to the stage for the first time in 16 years in July. So far, Oasis Live ’25 has taken them across the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and will continue in Japan on October 25th.
Marr, who is close friends with Noel Gallagher and was in attendance at Wembley Stadium to watch Oasis this summer, believes the news of the reunion alone was enough to make people happier across the UK.
He told Guitar World: “It’s an amazing thing that I saw, from the minute the reunions were announced in the UK, at least three quarters of the country were cheered up.”
Marr continued, “Because Noel’s my friend, of course, to give you a serious answer, I’m very happy that he’s reunited with his brother. That’s a great thing, obviously, but the concerts had such an elevated atmosphere and a real positive message of the power of music.”
The impact of the reunion has been felt across the world, according to Marr. The former Smiths guitarist said in America that he was inundated with people “telling me that they went to the concerts and how amazing these concerts were”.
He powerfully added, “It became like a cultural phenomenon, with the main inspiration being about unity. That’s something that is very much in need in today’s world. So they’ve done something really great, not only for themselves, but really for a lot of people. They brought a lot of people joy. And it’s something I’ve never seen in my lifetime. Biggest reunion of all time.”
Marr, who has a reputation for appearing out of the blue as a special guest during other artists’ concerts, also confirmed that he wasn’t asked to join the Gallagher brothers on-stage.
Similarly, earlier this week, Damon Albarn told the Mexican outlet Sopitas, “Oasis have done a very good job of making Britpop feel like it’s the biggest thing on Earth. I don’t know how they do it myself, how they keep doing it. They just hold on to that thing, but they do it very well.”
It remains to be seen whether the Oasis reunion will carry on next year, but Lady Taylor of Stevenage spoke in the House of Lords on October 22nd to claim they are set to play five shows at Knebworth House next July.
While speaking in the House of Lords, she said: “Next July, I have the benefit of five days of Oasis concerts in the fantastic venue of Knebworth House, which is just about a mile from my house. I can hear and enjoy [the gigs] from my house, and they represent the important cultural role of music venues and…make an enormous contribution to our economy.”
Taylor later backtracked on these claims and claimed that her comments were due to media speculation rather than insider knowledge.
