Damon Albarn says Oasis reunion has made Britpop become “the biggest thing on Earth”

Blur frontman Damon Albarn has again heaped huge praise on Oasis‘ triumphant reunion tour.

Since beginning in Cardiff at the start of July, Oasis have been the feel-good music story of 2025, performing sold-out shows around the world, including seven nights at Wembley Stadium in London, as well as the biggest concerts of their career in the US.

Now, during an appearance on the Mexican radio station Sopitas, Albarn, who was famously rivals with Oasis during the 1990s heyday of Britpop, has thanked the Gallagher brothers for their services to the genre.

Albarn shared: “Oasis have done a very good job of making Britpop feel like it’s the biggest thing on Earth. I don’t know how they do it myself, how they keep doing it. They just hold on to that thing, but they do it very well.”

In July, days after Oasis returned to the stage for the first time in 16 years, Albarn compared their reunion with Blur’s last tour in 2023 and conceded defeat, telling The Sun, “The funny thing is that our two nights at Wembley will be dwarfed by their seven.”

He continued,  “Well, it was obvious, wasn’t it? I think we can officially say that Oasis won the battle, the war, the campaign, everything.”

Albarn elaborated, “They are the winners. They take first place. In the face of such overwhelming evidence, I am happy to accept and concede defeat. It’s their summer and God bless them. I hope everyone has a wonderful time but I’m going to be in a very, very different place.”

For the time being, Albarn is back focusing on Gorillaz rather than Blur. They are set to release their new album, The Mountain, on March 26th, 2026, and will also headline a UK arena tour early next year before a series of festival dates across the world next summer.

Meanwhile, Oasis’ tour is set to resume with two shows at the Tokyo Dome in Japan this weekend, before venturing into Australia and Latin America. Oasis Live ’25 is set to conclude at the Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo on November 23rd.
