Rock royalty Joan Jett teamed up with Bikini Kill for a very special rendition of ‘Rebel Girl’ live in Brooklyn, New York.
Bikini Kill, who recently performed their first show in the UK in over 20 years, are now touring a string of dates in the US for the first time in decades. The trio of Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail and Kathi Wilcox rolled through fan favourites, made jokes about Donald Trump in-between songs and offered sections of a humorous feminist standup routine.
At one point, while king with the crowd, lead singer Kathleen Hanna said: “Don’t call me ‘Mom!’” which was greeted with all-round laughter. “First of all, I’m not your fucking mom, and if one more person calls me ‘Riot Mom’ I’m gonna put you all in a fucking station wagon! Why don’t you go on Instagram and call Eddie Vedder ‘Dad?’” she added.
After getting back to playing the music, the band again took a brief moment of pause to introduce the evening’s special guest; Joan Jett. Bikini Kill and Jett had previously collaborated on 1998 compilation album, The Singles, producing and contributing vocals on three of the tracks.
On of them, ‘Rebel Girl’, was the moment that Jett arrived on stage with guitar in hand.
