Jessie J reveals breast cancer diagnosis

English pop singer Jessie J has announced that she was recently diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

The musician, real name Jessica Cornish, returned earlier in April with comeback single ‘No Secrets’ which marked her first release in four years. However, Cornish has now told fans that the release also coincided with her diagnosis.

In a new Instagram video, Cornish stated that she has been “going back and forth” about whether to be transparent about the situation, but ultimately decided, “I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I’m a sharer. I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life.”

Cornish continued: “Before ‘No Secrets’ came out I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I’m highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I’m holding on to the word early. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period.”

The singer then explained how she has remained quiet on her diagnosis in her personal life and believes making it public will help her come to terms with the diagnosis.

She added: “Because selfishly I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories.”

Cornish then stated that she plans to focus on her recovery after performing at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium on June 15th, adding, “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery and I will come back with massive tits and more music.”

Jessie J is set to commence upon a five-date headline UK tour in October, which kicks off at Leeds O2 Academy on October 16th and concludes at London Palladium later that month. As it stands, these shows remain scheduled to go ahead.
