Jesse Plemons’ favourite Kirsten Dunst performance

Ever since her breakout as a child vampire in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire, Kirsten Dunst has played her fair share of iconic roles. She’s a favoured star of directors like Sofia Coppola and Lars von Trier, earning herself supporters in high places as well as hordes of fans who race out to see any project she’s in. But there’s perhaps no bigger Dunst fan than her husband, Jesse Plemons.

Dunst and Plemons are undeniably one of Hollywood’s sweetest couples. They collaborate in art, life, and love, and their relationship has always been tied to their careers. Whether they’re starring in something together, working on a production team as a unit, or simply cheering each other on at premieres, the duo is a powerful pairing.

At first, their chemistry was all on screen. They met on the set of Fargo, the TV series based on the eponymous 1996 dark comedy from the Coen brothers. Set in the same universe as the original, the anthology drops in on different stories and characters across the three seasons. Dunst and Plemons were both cast for season two, where they played a young couple attempting to cover up a crime.

Their on-screen love quickly found its way off-set as the pair started dating immediately after and were married in 2022 with their two kids at the ceremony. So whoever cast them as that married couple in the show was clearly prophetic.

Since then, they’ve starred in a few things together, like Black Mirror and The Power Of The Dog, but even when they’re not sharing the credits, they both watch each other’s projects like loyal fans. When asked to pick his favourite of his wife’s projects, Plemons struggled, too spoilt for choice.

“I thought she was unbelievable in The Beguiled because that was a part where there’s not a whole lot on the page, but she just elevated it so incredibly,” he said, picking out the 2017 gothic thriller. The film marked Dunst’s fourth collaboration with Sofia Coppola, as the director and actor have become tight friends and regular creative partners.

He also picked out a recent TV series she played the lead in. “On Becoming A God, she was amazing in that,” he said of the 2019 dark comedy On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

Having played so many iconic roles like Marie Antoinette and Mary Jane in the Spiderman series or tween cheerleader Torrence Shipman in the cult classic Bring It On, it would be tough for any fan to pick a favourite. However, Plemons is always keen to shine a light on his wife’s lesser-known works, claiming they’re some of her best. “Obviously, the iconic ones, but the deeper cuts are some of my favourites,” he said as a sweet display of admiration for his talented partner.
