Jane’s Addiction cancel tour following fight between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro

Jane’s Addiction have cancelled the remaining dates on their North American tour after singer Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro on stage in Boston on September 13th.

The rock icons have spent most of this year on tour, completing runs of shows in South America, Europe and Australia before returning to the United States for a final set of performances. However, tension in the band grew within the past week when Farrell’s voice suffered issues at a concert in New York, and then, things got physical in Boston.

Their set ended prematurely after 11 songs when Farrell attacked Navarro for seemingly no reason. Crew members rushed to the stage and bassist Eric Avery also helped quell the situation. In light of the incident, Jane’s Addiction cancelled a performance at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, Bridgeport, CT, on September 15th, but didn’t immediately provide any more updates on their other concerts.

Now, on September 16th, they have issued a short statement that reads, “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.”

Fans are also able to receive refunds that will be “issued at your point of purchase” and instructed those who used third-party resale sites to “reach out to them direct” for further information.

In total, 14 dates have been cancelled by Jane’s Addiction. The band were due to their ongoing North American tour in Toronto on September 18th, which was set to conclude at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on October 16th.

Additionally, Navarro has shared a statement of his own, which has been signed by Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins, which cites Farrell’s behaviour as the reason for the tour cancellation. The guitarist wrote, “Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.”

Furthermore, Navarro stated that “our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative.” He also stated on behalf of the band, “We hope that he will find the help he needs.”

Navarro insisted this decision was a last resort, but the only option they viewed as viable, noting, “We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.”

Have Jane’s Addiction broke up?

At this stage, Jane’s Addiction remain active but have not confirmed when they will be returning in the future and currently have no shows listed in their calendar.

Before sharing a public statement on Instagram, Navarro did post a cryptic message which suggested he had waved goodbye to the group. The guitarist uploaded an image of him taken in concert which sees him holding an acoustic guitar emblazoned with the Jane’s Addiction logo, which he captioned “Goodnight”.

As it stands, Farrell is yet to publicly acknowledge the incident and the allegations made about his “continuing pattern of behavior” by Navarro. However, his wife, Etty Lau Farrell, admitted on Instagram following the incident, “Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members”, which she said was “the magic that made the band so dynamic.”

In July, the band’s classic line-up released their first single in 34 years, ‘Imminent Redemption‘. Previously, Farrell had also spoken about the possibility of Jane’s Addiction making another studio album.

He told the Brazilian radio station 89 A Rádio Rock in 2023, “I feel that this new bunch of songs… We don’t know how many we’re gonna put out. But I can tell you one thing: it’s been one of the most exciting times of my life, because these songs are that good”.
