Jane Fonda recalls seeing Rob Reiner the night before he died: “I am reeling with grief”

Jane Fonda has paid tribute to the late director Rob Reiner and recalled seeing him the night before his death.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, who he married in 1989, were both found dead at their home in Brentwood, California, on December 14th.

The couple’s son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, was booked by the Los Angeles Police Department shortly after Rob and Michele’s bodies were found on December 14th at Exposition Park near the University of Southern California campus.

On December 16th, he was officially charged with two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. Reiner also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.

Now, Fonda has become the latest to pay tribute to Reiner, joining Hollywood stars such as Ron Howard, Kiefer Sutherland, and Christopher Guest, as well as high-profile figures from other worlds, such as Paul McCartney and Barack Obama, who have honoured the couple.

Taking to Instagram, Fonda shared an image of her with the When Harry Met Sally director alongside the heartfelt caption, which reads, “Rob and Michele Reiner were wonderful, caring, smart, funny, generous people, always coming up with ideas for how to make the world better, kinder. They had been helping me launch the Committee for the First Amendment.”

Fonda concluded by heartbreakingly revealing, “I saw them night before last looking healthy and happy. I am reeling with grief. Stunned.”

It was reported by CNN and various other outlets that the Reiners, including Nick, had engaged in an argument at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on the evening of December 13th and left the gathering shortly afterwards.

After the Reiners bodies were discovered, reportedly by their daughter Romy, close family friends Billy Crystal and Larry David arrived at the Brentwood property. They have since issued a public statement, also signed off by the likes of Martin Short, Barry Levinson, and Albert Brooks.

The open letter reads, “Rob was also a passionate, brave citizen, who not only cared for this country he loved, he did everything he could to make it better and with his loving wife Michele, he had the perfect partner. Strong and determined, Michele and Rob Reiner devoted a great deal of their lives for the betterment of our fellow citizens.”

It also noted, “They were a special force together – dynamic, unselfish and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”
