Jamie xx shares new song ‘Life’ featuring Robyn
Influential producer Jamie xx has teamed up with Swedish singer Robyn on his new song ‘Life’.
An upbeat, kaleidoscopic number drawing upon house and techno, featuring euphoric brass and technically brilliant sound design, it sees The xx member continue to push his distinctive style forward. The song is the third single from his new album In Waves, which arrives on September 20th via Young. It will hit shelves nearly a decade after his critically acclaimed debut In Colour soundtracked an era after being released in May 2015.
Discussing ‘Life’ in a statement, the influential producer said: “I made this track pretty fast (for me) and I loved it from day one. When I first heard Robyn’s vocal it was at 6 am after finishing playing at Pacha in Ibiza, it was the perfect moment.”
He continued: “Robyn and I have spent time working together and hanging out for some years now, it’s always a joy and always inspiring, I’m so glad and grateful that she is a part of In Waves. Thank you Robyn for bringing this track to life!”
Offering her thoughts on the blaring ‘Life’, Robyn said: “I just want to see how ‘Life’ gets people dancing this summer. I can’t wait for that. Jamie is such a brilliant creator, I’m excited to be part of his album.”
With In Colour featuring modern club classics such as ‘Gosh’ and ‘Loud Places’, In Waves has a tough act to follow. However, with the release of the tracks ‘Baddy on the Floor’, featuring Honey Dijon and ‘Treat Each Other Right’, Jamie xx is clearly pushing on. With collaborations also in store from xx members Romy and Oliver Sim, as well as the likes of Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear, and The Avalanches, as well as Erykah Badu on the deluxe vinyl edition, it’s shaping up to be one of the most hotly anticipated records of the year.
Reflecting on his new album, Jamie xx delved into the ecstatic nature heard on the singles: “I wanted to make something fun, joyful, and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me.”
While fans have been waiting for a new Jamie xx album for nearly a decade, he’s still been prolific elsewhere. Completing a ten-show residency at South London’s Venue MOT in May and trying his hands at various other projects, it was also confirmed earlier this year that The xx are making another album.
