James Taylor returns to The O2 in London: Here’s his setlist in full
For the first time in almost four years, legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor performed in the United Kingdom on July 23rd.
Taylor took to the stage at the O2 Arena in London for a huge show in the capital, performing at the iconic venue for the first time in 15 years.
The folk icon is currently on a European summer tour, which kicked off in Cork, Ireland, on July 4th, followed by dates in Dublin, Edinburgh, and Halifax.
On the continent, Taylor also made quick stops in the last week at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, as well as a headline date at AFAS Live in Amsterdam on July 21st.
Throughout the tour, Taylor has been sticking to a fairly rigid set, but despite now being 78-years-old, he isn’t taking any half measures, performing 22-songs and ensuring that he makes up for lost time since his last visit.
Taylor split his performance in London into two sets, with the first portion of the show including classic cuts such as ‘Whenever You’re Ready’, which opened the set, ‘Mexico’, ‘Handyman’, and ‘Steamroller’.
Then, for the second set of the night, Taylor thrilled the 20,000-capacity crowd with his most popular tracks, such as his cover of Carole King’s iconic song ‘You’ve Got A Friend’, ‘Fire and Rain’, ‘Sweet Baby James’, and ‘Carolina in My Mind’.
After those two sets, Taylor wasn’t ready to call it quits on the evening just yet, returning with his 11-piece band for an encore that saw them deliver renditions of ‘Shed a Little Light’, ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)’, and lastly, 1971’s ‘You Can Close Your Eyes’.
Taylor’s summer European adventure is set to come to a close on July 25th at the Open Air Theatre in Scarborough; hopefully, it won’t be another handful of years until he returns again.
Once he’s back home, Taylor will begin another North American tour, beginning at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, on August 30th, and will keep him busy until the run concludes at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, on September 26th.
