James Murphy wanted Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen to perform on the new LCD Soundsystem album
LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has revealed how hoped to include either Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen on the band’s new album.
American Dream, the new record from LCD, features the track ‘Black Screen’ and its extended unexplained outro. Now though, Murphy revealed that he had hoped to ask either Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen to perform a spoken word piece for the section before both sadly passed away.
“When I worked on the last song of the record [“Black Screen”] I said I wanted a spoken word bit done at the end,” Murphy said in a new interview with Crack Magazine.
“I said it would be amazing to have Lou Reed on the end of that song but he’d died,” he added. “But then I said, ‘I feel like I could talk to Leonard Cohen, let’s call Leonard Cohen and maybe he’ll do it,’ and then he died like three days later and I’m like… ‘fuck off.’ I’m not going to ask anybody else because they’re just going to die.”
