Jacob Elordi reveals he turned down an audition for Superman

Priscilla star Jacob Elordi has revealed he refused the chance to audition to star as Superman in an upcoming DC film.

Elordi, who rose to prominence for his performance in Euphoria, has long been rumoured to star in the iconic role. However, the Australian actor has now played down the possibility of appearing in any superhero movies at this stage in his career because he doesn’t watch that breed of film.

Speaking to British GQ, Elordi said in response to a question whether he could see himself appearing in a superhero film: “Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’”

Elordi continued: “And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.” He added: “And then I’m supposed to finish it with: ‘Never say never!’”

Later in the interview, he revealed: “Well, they asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, DC boss James Gunn was forced to deny rumours linking Elordi with the role of Superman. He wrote on social media: “My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet. Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t.”

He added: “We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”

In a four-star review of Elordi’s new film Priscilla, Far Out wrote: “As is often the case with Coppola’s films, Priscilla once again puts forth the idea that wealth and aspiration will always play second fiddle to what human beings genuinely want (regardless of their levels of affluence).”

The review continued: “All Priscilla wanted was to be loved and cared for, to live her own life in partnership with her husband, and what she got was a drug-addicted, self-obsessed, cultural phenomenon – a phenomenon that she would never entirely be able to remove herself from”.
